Night Trippin to Charleston

Me Vs. Universe, Stephen Stories on October 24th, 2009 11 Comments

Last night, at around 10:30, Nick Sam and I were sitting downstairs wondering what to do on a friday night. this is a rough transcript of what happened:

- me: “hey let’s go to Charleston.” Sam- “YEA” Nick-”heh” Alex-”Me too!”

So we tried to get Sam’s beachhouse people on the phone, but their slackerishness didn’t pick up, but we drove on anyway. Listening to really awesome rap even though I’m not sure who liked rap in the car; Nick maybe.

Edit: Waffle House at 2am is a magnet for scary people. But hasbrowns with ham and cheese is tasty enough.

So we arrived on the Isle of Palms, my childhood home (stinkin wonderful!), and of course Sam’s house was booked. Booo. At that point, rather than going to someone’s house for the night, we just stayed on the beach. Since no one prepared, it got a little cold  between 3 and 6, but no worries.

A quick stop at CVS and we grabbed some glow sticks. Sam’s Canon takes very good long exposure light-motion pictures, so we had a lot of fun trying to spell “USC” all in one picture. The glow sticks also doubled as a flashlight.

A truck came randomly down the beach through the dark, and Sam kinda freaked out, so we all ran off the beach. I was fairly sure the boogeymonster was chasing us.

We walked down the beach and talked about Jellyfish and Sharks. I build a sand-bed, but we moved after like 10 minutes. The lady at a local hotel was very kind, and didn’t mind us sitting in the lobby playing checkers (take that Nick!), or sleeping out on the pool deck.

Finally about 6am, we all got up and walked to the car, and drove to Chick-Fil-A (after a wrong turn), and had breakfast. Then quickly drove back to IOP, 25th avenue, and sat down to watch the sunrise. It was simply spectacular. The clouds, ocean, random-couple-with-huge-hair-who-stood-right-in-front-of-the-sun, the geese flying in a V. Whew, awesome!

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Sounds like fun but I think my "what a weirdo" comment still applies.

ps: que mala onda! Por que no venir a la casa?

I can't believe you came here and didn't even stop in at home for breakfast or a shower. Crazy Kid!

      • haha that's what Sarah said in Spanish :P

We were going to, but after the sunrise we were so exhausted everyone just wanted to get back. I drove while everyone else slept…But sometime this year we'll come down and stay like last year. I wasn't trying to snub ya'll.

        Love ya mom!

    • si de acuerdo, pero todos de mis compañeros eran completamente cansados. y también tu tuviste un examen a eso tiempo.

      love ya,
      Stephen

I think Isle of Palms is an incredible place. I've had a lot of conversations with God walking on the beach.

I was just down there last weekend. My sister-in-law is moving from North Charleston to IOP in a couple of weeks. The beach is definitely peaceful and beautiful. Sounds like a fun trip. Enjoy spontaneous trips while you can still do them.

Hey Stephen. Our family vacations yearly on Hilton Head Island, SC. Very close to Charleston. I've been to Charleston many times. Love it there. Beautiful beach.

Also wanted to give you a thumbs up on this beautiful blog design. I was very very close to pulling the trigger on this same design from @human3rror, but went with something else at the last minute. I love this template, though. Looks gorgeous.

I actually have a technical question for you… I'm just new to using stumbleupon, but I still have things toi learn. Whenh I followed the link from your tweet, your blog cam up with this tasty little stumbleupon stripe at the top. How do you do that? I've seen other bloggers use that feature as well, but I don't know how you set up your links to work that way. Any words of wisdom?

I enjoy following you. Thanks for blogging – keep it up! God bless.

    • awesome thanks Josh, I love Charleston.

Tech: go to http://su.pr (that's the whole link) and create an account so you can track how your links do.

Then you'll connect Twitter to su.pr, and when you want to post a link, C/P your link into su.pr along with the message you want sent to twitter.

When users click the link, the bar automatically comes up.

Su.pr is nice because it is fairly accurate about how many clicks come to your site, and what time of day is good to post, and some other features. I hope that makes some sense, as you can imagine from the post, I'm a bit tired right now heh.

  4. How fun!

This weekend my brother, dad, and I took a 34 hour (17 hour one way) road trip to Ohio to surprise my Great Grandma for her 90th birthday party!

And, I've totally spelled out UNT with the light from my phone and my friend messing with the time of exposure on his camera! So fun!!

I must say that I don't feel snubbed. In fact I wasn't even home. But being exhausted would be a perfectly good reason to stop at home. Everyone can crash out on the floor somewhere, sleep a few hours (or many hours) and go back to Columbia safely. Stephen I am glad you don't fall asleep in the car easily. And I am glad you had an awesome time.
