Notes from Jeremiah 31

Those posts without category on September 5th, 2010 No Comments

Really enjoyed reading through Jeremiah 31 this morning, after listening to the sermon “The New Covenant in the Old Testament” (iTunes link) on the same chapter. Jeremiah runs through the Gospel, I pulled out 8 points. It is so cool to see God plainly laying out the gospel hundreds of years before it would be [...]

Backstage Leadership

Back in the Spring of 2009 I stumbled across Backstage Leadership, an organization developing young leaders by connecting them with some of the biggest names in Christian Leadership. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of going through the Leadership program, as well as helping develop the website and graphics this year.
How does it work?
The [...]

Homeschool jokes

For those who don’t know, I was homeschooled for like 7.5 years. Fact: I *love* homeschool jokes. I blame ~95% of my quirky behavior on being homeschooled. As it turns out, you can talk weird, be extraordinarily socially awkward, or pull out some random fact and blame it on homeschooling; despite the fact that none [...]

They’re watching what you tweet

Yesterday I decided to look up who owns “fb.com” out of curiosity as to why Facebook doesn’t own it. As it turns out, the Farm Bureau, the self described “Voice of Agriculture,” owns the domain.
I tweeted:
Prediction: Facebook eventually buys “fb.com” from the Farm Bureau for 10 million dollars. The “voice of agriculture” is lost forever.

What should I be talking about?

I just finished reading Crush It! by Gary Vaynerchuk, and it’s got me thinking.
What am I the *best* at? The answer right now is nothing, which is fine for the moment. I think I should probably stop blogging and start reading, but I’m stuck. What subject am I most passionate about? For now, I’m not [...]

Orwells Rules of Communication

George Orwell thought pretty hard about communication. He wrote what one journalist called “the definitive guide to journalism” which should be read by every blogger. The article is long, so to get you started think about these rules of construction:
A scrupulous writer, in every sentence that he writes, will ask himself at least six questions, [...]

Blog Bankruptcy

Those posts without category on March 28th, 2010 1 Comment

It was time. I just declared Blog Bankruptcy.
There my blog sat, waiting for content, wondering why I own TWO blogs and don’t write on either one of them. A state of paralysis ensued, and the mere thought of putting out THAT much content (two blogs of it?) invoked stasis. So now I’ve killed all the [...]

Restaurant.com strategy

Those posts without category on January 9th, 2010 4 Comments

Ok this just popped into my head.
Your friends say “let’s go to dinner!” and you say sure sounds good and boot up http://restaurant.com. Scan through a few restaurants and find one with a $10 gift certificate for $4. Only catch is, minimum purchase of $20. So get a friend to “pay” for your meal with [...]

Free thought: evolution of bad news

Those posts without category on December 8th, 2009 8 Comments

Hey ya’ll, it’s been a month and two days, but per policy, I don’t apologize for not posting…just simply didn’t have time.
Let’s look at the evolution of bad news…

19th century: most bad news you got took a while. “Hey we lost the war” might come 2 months after it had actually happened. OR [...]
